DACULA, GA β€” The body of a 48-year-old missing Brookhaven woman has been found in Gwinnett County, both Gwinnett County Police and Brookhaven Police said Monday.

Brookhaven Police said Lafakis went missing from the 100 block of Glen Way. Her family had reported last seeing her Thursday. The Criminal Investigations Division began interviewing family members and those close to her.

Police said Wineinger was interviewed at Brookhaven's headquarters, and he was accused of making several false statements.

Wineinger was initially charged on suspicion of giving false statements and tampering with evidence and was taken to the DeKalb County Jail, police said.

However, the Barrow County Sheriff's Office notified Brookhaven Police Sunday that the body of a woman was found at Drowning Creek Road.

Gwinnett and Brookhaven investigators responded around 4 p.m. and confirmed the remains belonged to Lafakis, police said. Her cause of death is being investigated.

Wineinger is now being charged on suspicion of kidnapping and burglary in addition to his earlier charges, Brookhaven Police said.

Gwinnett Police said Wineinger is being charged on suspicion of concealing the death of another in Gwinnett. He remained incarcerated Monday afternoon, according to DeKalb jail records.
