Dacula House Fire: 6 Displaced, Person In Stable Condition

DACULA, GA β€” A person is in stable condition and six people are displaced following a Saturday fire in the 100 block of River Pass Court, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services.

First responders were called to the scene around 8:15 p.m. by a person reporting a fire at a neighbor's two-story house, fire officials said in a news release.

The accidental fire began in the corner of the front porch, where fire officials said they were told a leaf blower was plugged into an extension cord.

Someone tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose but was unsuccessful, fire officials said.

While crews were attacking the flames on the front porch, firefighters saw fire above the garage and in the attic and began to extinguish it, fire officials said.

According to the department release, electricity could not be ruled out as the cause of the fire.

Three people were home at the time of the fire. The smoke alarms failed to alert them due to the fire's location, according to the release.

The house suffered damage to the front porch and attic with moderate smoke and water damage throughout the rest of the house, according to the release.

One of the six people that were displaced was a child, fire officials said. The person that was treated for smoke inhalation was an adult and was reported to be in stable condition.

The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
