Man Arrested After Stealing Nearly $40K Of Diamond Rings, Earrings From Gwinnett Malls

Jonathan Weston was arrested in connection to a string of robberies that happened at the Mall of Georgia and Sugarloaf Mills in Gwinnett.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA β€” Police have arrested the man wanted for stealing nearly $40,000 worth of jewelry from four Gwinnett County stores.

Jonathan Louis Weston, 32, of Cumming, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 5, and charged with four counts of robbery and one count of battery, according to a news release.

The most recent theft happened Wednesday. Gwinnett Police officers responded to a call at the Zales in Sugarloaf Mills Mall. Weston asked to see a diamond ring, the release said. When it was handed to him he took it and ran.

Someone heard the employee yell and attempted to stop him, but was pepper-sprayed in the face. He continued to run and witnesses were able to take down his license plate before he drove away.

Forsyth County Deputies pulled Weston over and arrested him with the assistance of the Gwinnett Special Investigation Section. Weston was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail and held without bond.

Before Weston’s arrest, Gwinnett Police asked for the public’s assistance. In all the robberies, Weston first asked to see the pieces of jewelry before fleeing the stores.

On Christmas Eve police said he robbed Helzberg Diamonds at the Mall of Georgia, taking a pair of diamond earrings valued at $4,500. On Dec. 27, police said Weston stole two diamond earrings, one valued at $14,800 and the other at $10,999, from the Diamond Ring at the Mall of Georgia. On Dec. 29 Westin is accused of stealing a diamond ring worth $8,900 from Jewelry Box Outlet at Sugarloaf Mill Mall.
