Man Charged With Murder In Missing Girlfriend's Dacula Death

DACULA, GA β€” A 43-year-old man is now facing murder charges in connection with the disappearance and death of his girlfriend, Aimee Lafakis, Gwinnett County Police said Friday.

Lafakis, 48, went missing in late September from the 100 block of Glen Way in Brookhaven, police said in the past. Her body was found near Turkey Crossing and Drowning Creek in Dacula, police said.

Police said detectives reviewed the case Friday and have charged Brandon Wineinger, Lafakis' boyfriend, on suspicion of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault.

Wineinger was initially charged on suspicion of giving false statements and tampering with evidence in connection with Lafakis' disappearance. He remains in the DeKalb County Jail, police said.

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office notified Brookhaven Police on Oct.1 that the body of a woman was found at Drowning Creek Road.

Gwinnett and Brookhaven investigators responded around 4 p.m. and confirmed the remains belonged to Lafakis, police said. Her cause of death has not been released.
