Here are the top three stories today in Dacula:

  1. During its April meeting, the Jackson EMC Foundation awarded funding to a variety of organizations and nonprofits throughout Gwinnett County. The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM Georgia), the Spectrum Autism Support Group, and DIVAS Who Win Freedom all received $15,000 grants to improve a variety of different programs, charitable initiatives, and projects.   2. A shooting close by a high school in Gwinnett County has officially landed an adolescent suspect behind bars. According to investigators, an 18-year-old boy was shot in the leg during a drug deal and the suspect tried to get away by running into the woods. Reports of the shooting, located right down the street from South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, came in around 9:00 a.m. (WSBTV)
  3. Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna's driving under the influence case in Gwinnett County has officially been resolved. According to records obtained from Norcross Municipal Court, Ozuna entered a no-contest plea in Georgia and had to pay $1,000 as part of his agreement. Norcross police originally arrested Ozuna on charges of driving under the influence and reaching speeds of approximately 90mph in a 35mph zone. (WSBTV)

  • Gwinnett Parks and Recreation is a finalist for the 2023 Gold Medal for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. The award is presented by the National Recreation and Park Association, and helps bring the community one step closer to being recognized as the best Parks and Recreation Agency in the country!   • Reminder, the Gwinnett Humane Society will be closed from Sunday, May 14 through Saturday, May 20. If you're planning on adopting a furry friend in the next couple of days, make sure you head over there before they close up shop for the week. (Gwinnett Humane Society)
