Here are the top three stories today in Dacula:

  1. A Monday morning crash resulted in one victim in serious condition. The crash was between Dacula and Lawrenceville and left the driver seriously injured after they were trapped under a big rig on Ga. 316. While bystanders tried to free the person, they were unable. When firefighters got the person out, the victim was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. According to the police's most recent update, the person was undergoing surgery. (The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  2. Officials have officially charged a suspect in the disappearance and death of Susana Morales. Morales, whose skeletal remains were discovered near Dacula in February 2023, vanished on July 26 while walking home from a friend’s house. Miles Bryant, a former Doraville police officer, is accused of killing her and hiding her body near a Gwinnett County creek. (Police News)
  3. House Majority Leader Chuck Efstration was part of the group of Republicans that countered complaints of misconduct by prosecutors. On Monday's Crossover Day in the Georgia legislature, the Georgia House’s Republican majority passed House Bill 231, which created an oversight board for the state’s district attorneys. The bill was inspired by complaints by Republicans "that some Democratic prosecutors have publicly declared they would not prosecute Georgians arrested for violating the state’s six-week abortion ban."
