2,300-Gallon Sewage Spill in Lawrenceville Blamed on Grease

The spill happened Monday morning on Forest Valley Road.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA β€” A 2,300-gallon sewage spill Monday in Lawrenceville was caused by grease in a manhole, county officials say.

The spill happened at about 10:23 a.m. at a manhole at 320 Forest Valley Rd.

"The main cause was determined to be grease, with wipes, paper and other products as a secondary cause," the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources said in a release.

The overflow, which totaled an estimated 2,306 gallons, entered an unnamed tributary of Pew Creek. It was stopped by county workers at 12:05 p.m.

The department removed all deposited solids, washed down nearby surfaces and collected runoff. Signs letting residents know of the spill were placed in the area, and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division was notified.
