ICYMI: Budweiser Clydesdales Coming to Lawrenceville For Christmas

The famous horses will be in the city's first-ever Christmas parade on December 2.

LAWRENCEVILLE GA — The city of Lawrenceville will be bringing in the holiday season with some of the most famous horses in the world.

The Budweiser Clydesdales, and their trademark carriage, will appear in Lawrenceville's inaugural Christmas parade on December 2.

"Our events and programs support community engagement and further drive economic impact for our downtown business district," Lawrenceville city manager Chuck Warbington said in a news release. "Being able to launch our Christmas parade program with a nationally recognized brand only serves to further those goals and bring heightened awareness and exposure of Lawrenceville to the metro Atlanta region."

On April 7, 1933, August A. Busch, Jr. and Adolphus Busch III surprised their father, August A. Busch, Sr., with the gift of a six-horse Clydesdale hitch to commemorate the repeal of Prohibition, the company says.

The company soon bought a second six-horse hitch of Clydesdales and began using the horses, drawing a beer wagon, in their promotions.

One of their first officials duties was delivering a case of Budweiser to former New York Gov. Alfred E. Smith in appreciation of his years of service in the fight against Prohibition.

Today, Anheuser-Busch owns approximately 250 Clydesdales.
