New Soccer Complex Coming To Lawrenceville

The county approved a $5.9 million contract for work at Rock Springs Park.

GRAYSON, GA -- A new multi-million dollar soccer complex and playground is coming to Lawrenceville.

The Gwinnett County Commission on Tuesday approved a $5.9 million contract for a soccer complex at Rock Springs Park, at 550 Rock Springs Rd.

Opened in 2008, the 113-acre park, near Rock Springs Elementary School, already has a lighted football field, six lighted tennis courts, a picnic pavilion, a playground and two miles of multi-purpose trails.

"Rock Springs is already a very popular park, but this expansion will greatly increase the recreational opportunities available to residents in the area," county Commissioner Jace Brooks, who represents the area, said.

The soccer complex will be the first phase of the new construction.

The second phase will include a playground with an open shelter, a dog park, and expansion of the existing loop trail and a new entrance and more parking at the intersection of Old Peachtree Road and Collins Hill Road.

A citizen steering committee helped develop the master plan for Rock Springs Park in 2005.

The project will be paid for with funds from Gwinnett County's voter-approved 2009 special-purpose local option sales tax.
