ILLINOIS — As we head into a new week, Patch has rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend.

Missing Boy, 3, Found Safe In Woods: Police

A 3-year-old boy reported missing from a home near a forest preserve Saturday morning was found safe in the woods, police said Monday. Police deployed drones and bloodhounds and had a dive team on standby before the child was found safe.

3rd Man Dies After Apparent Double Murder-Suicide: Report

A man suspected to be the shooter in an apparent double murder-suicide has died, according to reports. Two men were found fatally shot in a townhome Friday evening, and a woman and two children were able to escape, police said.

Initial emergency calls reported a barricaded subject inside a home, prompting a heavy police presence and emergency response.

Armed Man Caught In High-Speed Chase: Cops

The man was driving a car stolen from an Indiana dealership, authorities in Illinois said. Police tried to stop the Cadillac he was driving, but say it sped off before officers disabled it with a spike strip.

Man Punches Restaurant Worker: Cops

Police said a restaurant employee noticed the man walking back and forth outside the eatery and approached him, asking him if he'd like some food. The man turned and punched the employee in the face, which was captured on two cameras, police said. Inside the restaurant, employees said, they armed themselves with items including a children's high chair and a broom in case he entered the building. Later, the man was caught in a resident's backyard, with candles lit and the grill turned on, police said.

Sleeping Elderly Man Rescued From Townhome Fire

An elderly resident discovered asleep in his townhome was rescued and safe Saturday night thanks to observant neighbors, officials said. Smoke from the fire had already entered the home when fire crews got inside and found the man sleeping in a bedroom.

Duo Busted With 120K Fentanyl Pills Marked As Oxycodone: Police

A 54-year-old woman and 22-year-old man from out of state were arrested after authorities learned a large quantity of narcotics would be entering the area on Aug. 8. Police pulled their vehicle over and found drugs, including 120,000 fentanyl pills that were marked as oxycodone, according to authorities.
