HINSDALE, IL – Tammy Prentiss, who was ousted as Hinsdale High School District 86's superintendent a year ago, is likely doing fine economically.

She is now making a pension of $228,108 a year, which works out to $19,000 a month. Such pension income is not subject to the state's income tax.

Prentiss was 55 when she retired in the spring. Patch obtained Prentiss' pension information through a public records request to the Teachers Retirement System.

Prentiss' ending salary was $277,470.

Over her more than 25-year career, Prentiss contributed $374,142 to the pension system. She'll get that amount of money in pension payments over 20 months.

Under state rules, Prentiss' pension will grow with 3 percent compounded interest annually. The yearly amount will rise to $306,558 in 10 years and $411,988 in 20 years.

A year ago this week, the school board approved a settlement in which Prentiss was to get her entire year's salary in payments through March. This was seen as a bridge to allow her to retire.

The agreement said she was to remain available to perform "administrative duties." But the district never called on her to work again.

In 2020, Patch published a story about a former Hinsdale School District 181 superintendent who received big spikes in her salary in the years before she retired. That meant she received a much larger pension.
