HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale Central High School may let seniors go off campus for lunch as early as next January, the principal said last week.

At Thursday's school board meeting, Principal Bill Walsh said his school would watch how off-campus lunch would play out at Hinsdale South.

Walsh said Hinsdale Central's layout and access to restaurants is a lot different from South's. He said his school supports South's position and that it will see how South's pilot program works.

Hinsdale High School District 86 has made no decision yet about off-campus lunch at South. But Principal Patrick Hardy and students are pushing for off-campus lunch to happen.

Hardy has proposed limiting the perk to seniors who have C's or better in their classes, as long as their parents approve them leaving campus.

Hardy told the board Thursday that it was not uncommon for one school to let the other go first to see how a program works out.

"We agree there are geographic and other differences between these two schools on this topic," Hardy said.
