HINSDALE, IL – The Hinsdale High School District 86 board's policies call for it to choose officers for the next year by the end of April.

The board is scheduled to hold its last regular meeting of the month Thursday, but the agenda does not include any item on selecting officers. At this point, the agenda cannot be changed.

During odd-numbered years, the board can hold its reorganization meeting as late as 40 days after the April election.

But on even-numbered years, the board is required to hold its officer election in April.

Until Tuesday, the board can still hold a special meeting to meet the deadline, as long as it gives the public 48 hours' notice. Otherwise, it will violate its own policy.

A school district spokesman did not return a message for comment Tuesday.

Little doubt exists that board members would re-elect Catherine Greenspon for a second year as president. At the last board meeting, four of Greenspon's six fellow board members praised her leadership. This was after a critic recommended Greenspon's ouster.

If the board chooses Greenspon for another year, that would be the first such re-election in a long time. The board has had six presidents since 2019.

Members Peggy James and Asma Akhras are the board's vice president and secretary, respectively.

The last few months at District 86 have seen a series of high-profile resignations, including the news this week that Hinsdale South's principal, Patrick Hardy, is leaving for another job.

The district has also suffered well-publicized controversies in basketball programs at both South and Central.
