Hinsdale Offering Cooling Centers For Residents

The village library and fire and police departments serve as cooling centers as heat indexes could hit as high as 109 degrees.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale has temporary cooling centers for residents who may need emergency cooling.

The entire Chicago area is under a heat advisory starting at noon Tuesday and ending at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Peak heat indexes between 105 to 109 are a possibility.

The Hinsdale Public Library at 20 E. Maple St and the Hinsdale Fire and Police departments at 121 Symonds Drive will serve as cooling centers for Hinsdale residents. The library is set to be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. If residents need somewhere to cool off outside the library’s operating hours, they can go to the fire and police department.

Hinsdale also advises its residents to stay hydrated during hot weather and watch out for signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

  • Confusion
  • Hallucinations
  • Nausea
  • Slurred speech
  • Light-headedness
  • Muscle cramps
  • Cool and clammy or hot, dry, flushed skin
  • Rapid or slow heartbeat

In the event of an emergency, residents are asked to call 911. For non-emergency situations, residents can call the police department at 630-789-7070 or the fire department at 630-789-7060.
