Snow Could Impact IL Evening Commute

A special weather statement has been issued for most of northern Illinois, calling for snow Thursday afternoon and evening.

Most of northern Illinois can expect to see some snow Thursday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for McHenry, Lake, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook, La Salle, Kendall, Will, Kankakee Grundy and Lake counties for a period of accumulating snow for Thursday afternoon and evening.

According to the NWS, a period of moderate snow is expected over northern Illinois starting this afternoon and continuing into the evening as it shifts into northwest Indiana. Snow accumulations around one inch are possible with isolated higher amounts up to 2 inches.

According to the NWS, most of the accumulation will occur on the grass, but slippery conditions are possible on the roads. Visibility could go under one mile at times as well.

Here's a look at your forecast for the next few days:

  • THURSDAY AFTERNOON: A chance of rain before 3 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., then snow likely after 4 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 39. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • THURSDAY NIGHT: Rain and snow, mainly before 11 p.m. Low around 30. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
  • FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 20. North northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.
  • SATURDAY: Sunny, with a high near 36. North northwest wind around 10 mph.
