LOCKPORT, IL — Lockport Mayor Steve Streit has signed an executive order declaring rule and regulations about unscheduled intercity buses after a busload of migrants from Texas arrived at the Lockport Metra Station last week.

"The City worked with other agencies to ensure that all migrants were transported to the Chicago Processing Facility," the City said on its Facebook.

On Dec. 22 Streit signed an executive order "to establish a policy for the stopping, standing and parking of intercity buses and the discharge of passengers within the City."

The executive order states that any unscheduled intercity bus must apply for approval from the Chief of Police at least five days before the date of arrival.

The order will remain in effect until the end of the next City Council meeting on Jan. 3, when the Council could approve a resolution in its place.

Drop-offs like the one that was attempted in Lockport have been reported in several Chicago area suburbs, including in Manhattan. The mayors of Manhattan and New Lenox have signed similar executive orders restricting drop-offs.

"The Lockport Police Department, in conjunction with other law enforcement and emergency management agencies in Will County, continue to monitor and respond accordingly to the situation," the City said.
