HF Superintendent Search Community Gathering May 20 @ 6:30 p.m.

The Homewood-Flossmoor High School District 233 Board of Education approved a contract with The Alma Advisory Group to complete a national search process for the next Superintendent for Homewood-Flossmoor High School District 233. The Board expects to fill the position before the end of the calendar year, allowing for a smooth transition in leadership in July 2025.

Homewood-Flossmoor High School Superintendent Dr. Scott Wakeley announced his retirement during a faculty meeting in April. Effective at the end of the 2024-25 school year, Dr. Wakeley will conclude his education career that spans 34 years, including 20 years as a superintendent, with four of those leading Homewood-Flossmoor High School District 233.

"I am deeply grateful to HF students, staff, and community for entrusting me with the leadership of our school district,” Superintendent Dr. Scott Wakeley said. “Your unwavering support, dedication, and commitment to excellence have been the driving force behind our collective achievements. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such talented individuals and witness the incredible growth and success of our students. As I retire, I carry with me cherished memories and profound appreciation for the privilege of serving this extraordinary community. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your Viking journey."

At its April meeting, the Board selected The Alma Advisory Group for many reasons including its clear focus on equity and diversity in hiring through a competency-based approach at all phases of the process. The process also includes inclusive and authentic community engagement to assure the candidates meet the community’s vision for its school. The Alma Advisory Group will partner with the Board of Education in each step of the search and hiring process, assuring a smooth transition in leadership.

To support this effort, the Board has scheduled a community gathering for Monday, May 20 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the high school’s Performing Arts Center (999 Kedzie Avenue, Flossmoor). Park in the main south lot and enter through Door 9. Light refreshments will be serve.

In addition, the Board is holding a number of focus groups for teachers, staff, administrators and students to meet with Alma and share their perspectives about the future of the district. Community members will be able to engage directly with representatives of the Alma team and share their hopes and expectations for district leadership moving forward.

To engage as many people as possible, the Board is also launching a community survey, scheduled to open on May 14th and remaining open until May 28th.
