Find a Cooling Center in La Grange to Escape Excessive Heat

Residents are urged to check on their relatives, friends and neighbors as the week heats up.

LA GRANGE, IL — Temperatures are on the rise this week in the Chicago area, and the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Thursday afternoon through Friday evening.

This level of heat can pose health risks, especially to elderly adults, young children and pets.

The village of La Grange with Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital can provide temporary shelter for residents in need of a cooling center between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. at La Grange Memorial Hospital, 5101 Willow Springs Road.

Use the main emergency room entrance, ask for security and tell them you need the cooling center. Hospital security will provide an escort to the center.

The Township of Lyons also will provide a cooling shelter from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday at 6404 W. Joliet Road in Countryside.

For additional information or emergency assistance, call the village’s Emergency Dispatch Center at 911.

Because of the heat, Republic Waste Services plans to begin collecting refuse at 6:30 a.m. July 21 for residents south of 47th Street. Refuse crews expect to complete collection by mid-afternoon.

Public health officials recommend avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during the heat of the day, wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water.
