The Lemont Keepataw Day organization has proudly selected John Quinn and the Lemont Lions Club as grand marshals for this year’s 72nd Annual Lemont Keepataw Day Parade, scheduled for September 1, 2024, in downtown Lemont. This year’s theme, “Village of Volunteers,” reflects Lemont’s deep-rooted tradition of community service, making the honorees fitting choices.

John Quinn, a lifelong Lemont resident, exemplifies dedication to his community through extensive volunteer work. As Vice President of the Lemont Area Historical Society, Quinn not only supports the organization’s mission but also actively engages in maintaining the historic building. Quinn also spearheaded the cleanup of the unknown soldier's tombstone at the Danish Cemetery on 127th Street.

Additionally, he has led the “Giving Back to Lemont” annual concert for the past 12 years, raising over $38,000 and collecting non-perishable foods and supplies for Lemont’s two pantries. Quinn also volunteers for the Hope and Friendship Foundation and the Lemont Keepataw organization. His nominators, Darlene and Terry Blanz, describe him as a man who selflessly prioritizes others and possesses a remarkable ability to unite people.

"John is the guy who always 'knows a guy' because he represents the best of what is the Lemont community," says Terry Blanz.

The Lemont Lions Club, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 charity established in 1961, has long been a cornerstone of charitable service in the community. Focusing recently on providing direct aid to families in need, the club has made significant contributions, such as funding cataract surgery and essential home repairs for local residents.

In the past fiscal year alone, the Lions Club completed 146 service activities, serving over 10,000 people—all thanks to the generous support of local businesses and residents. The group also raises money to help other local charities, such as the Hope and Friendship Foundation, Lemont VFW Post #5819, the MorningStar Mission, and Sertoma, to name just a few.

By choosing both John Quinn and the Lemont Lions Club as grand marshals, the Lemont Keepataw Day organization honors the community's spirit of volunteerism. Their recognition underscores the lasting impact of community service and the enduring legacy of giving back that continues to flourish in Lemont.

The 72nd Annual Lemont Keepataw Day Parade will commence at 1 PM, followed by a fun fest at 2 PM in the Metra parking lot. The festival promises a day full of enjoyment with live bands, food and beverage vendors, an artisan market, and a variety of family-friendly activities.

The live band lineup will include the 90s rock band Grungeworthy from 2 to 4:30 p.m., classic rock band Anthem from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and cover band headliner Maggie Speaks from 8 to 11 p.m.
