NORTHBROOK, IL — Saying the Village had received at least double-digit applications for a recently vacated spot on the Village Board, Northbrook Village President Kathryn L. Ciesla nominated Michelle Zenner Kohler to fill it. Her fellow trustees then voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve Kohler as Muriel Collison's replacement through April 2025 when the latter's current term ends. Kohler was officially sworn in at the meeting.

Collison, who had served on the board since 2017, announced last month she was resigning due to a family medical issue. Her resignation was effective Monday.

"We were all surprised when Trustee Collison resigned, however, I have to thank the Village Board for really helping me find the right person to fill her spot as a trustee," Ciesla said at the meeting. "Michelle clearly stood out."

Kohler served two elected terms on the Northbrook School District 28 Board of Education, most recently serving as its vice president through the end of her tenure in April.

"Michelle has already earned the trust of the community when it comes to Northbrook's most precious asset, and that's our children," Ciesla said.

Since 2020, Kohler has served as a commissioner on Cook County's Women's Commission for the 14th District. Professionally, Kohler has spent the last 25 years in business strategy and marketing, with a focus on communications, according to Ciesla.

"I am confident that Michelle's experience will provide our Village Board with valuable insight when it comes to strengthening our inter-governmental relationships, protecting the interests of our schools, and broadening the scope of our outreach," Ciesla said prior to the vote.
