Northfield Township Road District Opens 2024 Recycling Services

NORTHBROOK, IL — The Northfield Township Road District will once again open its facility for daily recyclable drop-offs available for Township residents beginning on Monday, April 8.

The Road District's garage, located at 237 Melvin Drive in Northbrook, accepts recyclable materials from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday, through Nov. 1, when the recycling facility closes for the winter months.

Northfield Township comprises the villages of Glenview, Northbrook and Northfield, and represents nearly 78,000 people. These recycling events are open to residents only.

According to a news release, the Road District accepts a wide variety of items for charitable re-use or responsible recycling, which are listed in detail on its website. Residents are asked to drive their vehicles to the front of the garage door on the north driveway side of the building and ring the bell for assistance unloading their cars.

The Road District also hosts paper shredding and household chemical recycling events throughout the summer months. Paper shredding for sensitive documents includes private documents only, such as financial statements. Third class mail, previously shredded paper, ads, books, newspapers, magazines, or business paper shredding will be not be accepted.

The current schedule of special events includes:

  • Earth Day (paper shredding) — From 9 a.m. to noon April 20, at West Commuter Lot (1401 Shermer Road), in partnership with the Village of Northbrook.
  • Paper shredding for sensitive documents — From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 18, June 22, July 24 (held at the North Shore Senior Center), Aug. 17, Sept. 21 and Oct. 26.
  • Household chemical recycling — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 11 and Nov. 2. Visit the Road District's website for a complete list of acceptable recyclable items.
