Forbes Recognizes WGU as one of the Best Employers for Veterans

Online, nonprofit university was named as a stand-out employer for the veteran community in the publication's 2020 List

Western Governors University (WGU) is pleased to announce it was recently named to the 2020 Forbes' list of America's Best Employers for Veterans. The online, nonprofit university is among 150 companies across the country to be recognized with the honor this year.

Forbes collaborated with world-leading statistics portal and industry-ranking provider Statista to compile the list of Best Employers for Veterans. More than 5,000 U.S. veterans (individuals who have served in the United States Armed Forces – either in military, National Guard or military reserves) who work for companies employing at least 1,000 people within the United States were surveyed between March and June 2020. Respondents were asked to evaluate working conditions, salary and wage, employers' approach to diversity and inclusion, and how veteran-friendly the work environment is. The 150 companies receiving the highest total scores were named the "Best Employers for Veterans 2020. Western Governors University ranked 71st among the Veterans surveyed.

"WGU is honored to be recognized among the best employers for veterans by Forbes Magazine," said Dr. Angie Besendorfer, Regional Vice President of Western Governors University. "Many U.S. veterans are employed by WGU as faculty, staff and university leaders, and their contributions are critical to WGU's success and the success of our students. We salute our veteran employees for their service and thank them for their continued commitment to furthering access to high-quality, college education for working adults across the region."
