Illinois State Police Warn Of Phone Scam: Fake ISP Calls

An individual will call and claim to be affiliated with the police and ask for donations for officers who have died in the line of duty.

YORKVILLE, IL – The Illinois State Police issued a warning of a phone scam circulating the state. An individual will call and claim to be affiliated with the ISP and ask for donations for officers who have died in the line of duty.

The phone number most often associated with this scam is calling from 312-789-5176, according to the police. However, the scam can come from any number. Citizens should be wary of calls asking for money, particularly if threats are made or if they become pushy, police said.

According to the ISP, they will never call to ask for money, for money to be sent, or on behalf of the department. Police ask residents to contact 800-243-0618 and report it to the Office of the Illinois Attorney General if they believe they have been victim to a phone scam.
