Gay Couple Ordered Out Of Car By Indianapolis Lyft Driver

A young gay couple was told to get out of an Indianapolis Lyft driver's car after the driver saw them kiss.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — What was supposed to be a regular Lyft ride for two college students was cut short after the pair, a gay college couple, kissed. The Indianapolis Star reports a Lyft driver picked up the two young men at Butler University on Saturday, May 5 to drive them to Broad Ripple, but ordered the couple to get out of his car on the corner of Meridian and Westfield because he couldn't have "that" in his car.

Ben Martella, an upcoming sophomore at Butler, and Alec Jansen, an upcoming junior at Purdue University, told IndyStar they were stunned and had only "pecked" before being yelled at.

Martella told the news source they've since notified Lyft and were refunded in addition to receiving a statement from a company "Trust & Safety Specialist."

However, Martella told IndyStar that he sought to have the driver removed from Lyft, but it wasn't until the newspaper contacted the company that they said the driver had been "deactivated."
