PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — As rain rolls through the area, meteorologists caution that flash flooding is possible. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for Prince George's County Wednesday morning.

The alert takes effect late Wednesday evening and lasts through Thursday morning. Other parts of central Maryland, Washington and Northern Virginia are also in the line of fire.

Forecasters predict that several rounds of rain will pass through the region over the next 24 hours. The wave started Wednesday morning. A lull is expected in the afternoon.

Wednesday night will see moderate to heavy rainfall, the National Weather Service suggests. A few smaller thunderstorms may also join the mix.

The weather officials estimate that 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall. Some areas may collect more, they say. This heavy collection could lead to localized flash flooding, the forecast notes.
