Two Weekend Fires Force Five People From Their Howard County Homes

Five people have been forced from their Howard County homes after two weekend fires caused damage, officials say.

COLUMBIA, MD — Five adults have been displaced from their Howard County homes after fires broke out this weekend.

Saturday around 3:40 p.m., Howard County firefighters were called to a townhouse in the 6300 block of Early Glow Court in Columbia for a report of a chimney fire. When they arrived on the scene, heavy smoke was pouring from a townhouse. A fire was found at the back of the home and in the attic. Firefighters gained control of the fire within 20 minutes. No injuries were reported but one adult has been displaced. Damage was limited to one townhouse, according to the fire department. The cause is being investigated by the state office of the fire marshal.

Then on Sunday around 1:40 a.m., firefighters were called to the 8800 block of Goose Landing Circle in Columbia for another townhouse fire. Crews found smoke rolling out of the home and quickly brought the fire under control, which was curbed by the home's sprinklers, according to the fire department. The Red Cross was called in to assist four adults and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the state office of the fire marshal.
