Numerous tributes to Day were posted on social media, including from Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.

"I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of my dear friend and West Friendship Volunteer Fire Chief Mickey Day. He was a great husband, brother, friend, colleague and mentor to countless across our community. Through our work together, we reopened the Agricultural Land Preservation Program, introduced the Office of Agriculture, increased our funding for our volunteer fire companies, supported our Future Farmers of America and had many successful Howard County Fairs, even following the COVID-19 pandemic. He was someone who always found a way to give back to our community," Ball posted on Facebook.
