Anne Arundel Takes Part In Clear The Shelters Day

MIILERSVILLE, MD — Anne Arundel County Animal Care and Control is joining animal shelters across Maryland on Saturday, Aug. 18, to participate in the fourth annual Clear The Shelters event, the nation's largest single-day pet adoption event.

The event sponsored by NBC helps shelters nationwide find permanent and loving homes for homeless animals. While the shelter will waive adoption fees on all pets available, all regular adoption requirements will apply; residents are asked bring a photo ID and the necessary paperwork to qualify to adopt: www.aacounty.org/services-and-programs/adopt-a-pet.

"We're going to have staff and volunteers on the ready to be able to take dogs on walks with people, as well as cats in our get acquainted room to make sure you guys get along, and then we'll go through the process from there," Nichole Miller, director of the Maryland SPCA, told WBAL.

Thanks to two of the Anne Arundel shelter’s rescue partners, the adoption fees for all pit bull-type mixed breed dogs at AACACC also will be waived for anyone who applies Saturday to adopt through either Tara's House Animal Rescue, Inc. (www.tarashouse.org) or the SPCA of Anne Arundel County (www.aacspca.org).

The dog and cat viewing rooms at shelter, 411 Maxwell Frye Rd., Millersville, MD, will be open as usual from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
