Betty Grace Hardesty, 88, of Edgewater: Obituary

EDGEWATER, MD — Betty Grace Hardesty, 88, of Edgewater, MD, passed away on March 24, 2017. A native of Annapolis, Betty was born on December 6, 1928 to the late Edward and Mable Mason and grew up in Eastport. She worked alongside her husband at Hardesty and Monroe Oil Company and continued to support the family business when it became Hardesty and Son Transportation. She was devoted to her family and her faith.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Jack Dawson Hardesty; her son, Terry Scott Hardesty; and three brothers, William “Billy”, Harvey and Malcom “Ray” Mason.

Betty is survived by her loving grandsons, Christopher and Jeffrey Hardesty, both of Edgewater; two brothers, Robert “Speedy” Mason and his partner, Barbara Baxter, and Sherman Mason and his wife, Pauline; two sisters-in-law, May and Francis Mason; her foster daughter, Leslie Carr and her children, Clinton and Aaron Carr; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to celebrate Betty’s life with her family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 30 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, where Betty’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis.
