School Crossing Guard Of The Year Honored For 15 Years Of Service In Anne Arundel County

This school crossing guard was recently named the best in Anne Arundel County. She has served students for the past 15 years.

EDGEWATER, MD β€” Debbie Brooks was recently named the School Crossing Guard of the Year.

Brooks has been a crossing guard for a decade and a half. She serves students at Edgewater Elementary School.

"Congratulations, Ms. Brooks," the Anne Arundel County Police Department said last Wednesday in a press release announcing the award. "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your steadfast dedication to not only the program but to the children you've held watch over for the past 15 years."

  • Tracey D'Angelo (Vice president of the Southern District's Police Community Relations Council)
  • Amal Awad (Anne Arundel County police chief)
  • Capt. Mike Ashburn (Southern District commander)
  • Shannon Leadbetter (District 7 County Council member)
  • Thelma Swigert (School Crossing Guard Program manager)
  • Members of the police department's Executive Command Staff
