Free Trees to Anne Arundel County Residents

The Anne Arundel County Watershed Stewards Academy is offering free trees and shrubs as part of the MD DNR Backyard Buffers program.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD--The Anne Arundel County Watershed Stewards Academy is offering free trees and shrubs to Anne Arundel County residents as part of the MD DNR Backyard Buffers program, according to a news release.

Backyard Buffers can be planted near any area where rain water flows: near roadside ditches, downhill from hard surfaces such as parking lots or rooftops, in areas that flood, or along streams, creeks, or rivers.

A free workshop, held on April 14 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center, will cover ground preparation, tree spacing, tree planting, deer protection and maintenance of your seedlings/buffer.

Seedlings must be pre-ordered. Bundles will be available for pickup on April 13 and 14 and should be planted shortly after pick up. Deer protection tubing is available for purchase. Request for deer protection must be made at time of seedling order.

Anne Arundel Watershed Stewards Academy is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify, train and support community leaders, called Watershed Stewards, to take action with their neighbors to restore local waterways in Anne Arundel County. Watershed Stewards Academy is housed at Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center, which is the Outdoor and Environmental Education Center of Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
