'Tragic Accident' Kills 10-Year-Old In Edgewater, GoFundMe Raises Thousands: Report

EDGEWATER, MD — A 10-year-old Edgewater boy died recently "after a tragic accident at his home," his school principal announced in a letter obtained by Report Annapolis News.

A GoFundMe raised thousands for the funeral and burial of Anthony Leveron-Mancia, who just finished fourth grade at Mayo Elementary School. Neither the school nor the fundraiser mentioned his exact cause of death.

"Anthony was a sweet young man who loved every one of the many friends he had at our school," Principal Lenora Fox said in her letter. "He was very much looking forward to entering the fifth grade in the fall. Anthony loved to draw cartoons, play jokes, build with Legos, and play video games with his friends. His favorite game to play online with his friends was Roblox."

The letter said Leveron-Mancia died on July 7.

The funeral was Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater. Leveron-Mancia was buried later that day at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis, William Reese and Sons Mortuary P.A. said.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of this news," the Mayo Elementary School PTO said on Facebook, sharing a link to the GoFundMe. "Our entire Mayo family shares in mourning this incredible young man."

Nearly 350 people donated to the fundraiser, which closed on Saturday. The campaign raised $22,585.

"We are extremely blessed for the outpouring of love and support from the entire community," fundraiser organizer Dawn Jeffries said after exceeding her $15,000 goal. "We do feel we received enough money to give Anthony a proper service and burial."

Funeral costs are still being calculated. If there is leftover money, Leveron-Mancia's parents will decide what to do with it.
