EDGEWATER, MD — A road construction project requiring the temporary closure of MD 253 (Mayo Road) will begin at 9 p.m. tonight, Friday, Oct. 18. MD 253 between Shore Drive and MD 214 (Central Avenue) will remain closed throughout the weekend to replace an aging culvert. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21.

The detour will reroute motorists to Stepneys Lane or MD 2 (Solomons Island Road) to MD 214. Approximately 21,000 vehicles per day use this section of Mayo Road, so motorists should allow extra drive time this weekend.
