Severe Thunderstorm Warning Extended For Southern Anne Arundel

A severe thunderstorm warning was extended due to a storm with 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail, the National Weather Service says.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD β€” The National Weather Service has extended a severe thunderstorm warning for south-central Anne Arundel County Monday, June 17. Wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail have been associated with the storm, according to authorities.

The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 8 p.m. At 7:13 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Marlton, or near Upper Marlboro, moving east at 30 mph, the weather service said.

These locations may be affected, officials say: Shady Side, Chesapeake Beach, Upper Marlboro, Breezy Point, Rosaryville, Marlton, Dunkirk, Owings, Baden, Friendship, Tracys Landing, Sunderland, Cheltenham and Mount Harmony.

Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles, the weather office said. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, people should go inside to stay safe and move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Do not drive underneath wooded areas until the threat has passed, as trees and branches may fall. Roads may become blocked by downed trees, and localized power outages are possible, according to the warning.

The area is also under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m.
