EDGEWATER, MD β€” Route 214 was closed between Riva Road and Brick Church Road in Davidsonville July 24 due to a large sinkhole and remains closed July 25 as workers attempt to repair the damage, the Anne Arundel County Police Department reports. Officials hope the road will reopen by Friday evening.

A new pipe has to be installed under the eastbound lane because of the sinkhole that is approximately two feet wide and five feet deep. A pipe failure is what caused the sinkhole July 24. Once the new pipe is installed, the road will need to be stabilized, inspected, then prepped for travel before it can be reopened.
