Football Team Forfeits 3 Games After Ineligible Player Participates: AACPS

The South River High School football team forfeited three wins because an ineligible player participated in multiple games, officials said.

EDGEWATER, MD β€” The South River High School varsity football team forfeited three of its wins because an ineligible player participated in multiple games, officials said. Anne Arundel County Public Schools announced the penalty on Oct. 25 after investigating the allegations.

AACPS did not identify the player or explain why they were ineligible. The student-athlete could also be subjected to more consequences under state law.

The Seahawks were 5-3 before the punishment. The forfeitures dropped their record to 2-6.

The additional losses will hurt South River's postseason seeding, but the school can still partake in the Class 4A playoffs. This year is the first time that all teams will qualify for the postseason.

The Seahawks beat the Annapolis High School Panthers at home on Monday and improved to 3-6. South River will finish the regular season on the road Friday at 7 p.m. against the Great Mills High School Hornets in St. Mary's County.
