Take Shelter: Hail, Intense Thunderstorms Rolling Through Anne Arundel County

A thunderstorm with large hail is moving into Anne Arundel County late Friday.

EDGEWATER, MD β€” Authorities warn that a strong storm is passing through Prince George's County toward south-central Anne Arundel County late Friday afternoon, so take shelter if you hear rumbling. Pictures and videos posted online show quarter-sized hail in some areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for south central Anne Arundel County, northwestern Calvert County and east central Prince George's County until 6:30 p.m. ET. At 5:39 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Upper Marlboro, moving southeast at 25 mph. Golf ball-size hail and 60 mph wind gusts are possible, the weather service warns, with one trained weather spotter reporting hail of that size in Takoma Park.

Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.
