Teece Nowell, a licensed clinical counselor, is the director of TimberNook West River. Christine Force, a pediatric physical therapist, is the director of TimberNook Central Maryland based in Gaithersburg. Both Nowell and Force offer a range of programming for children ages 4 to 13 this summer.

Angela Hanscom, founder and CEO of TimberNook, developed this innovative camp experience to address the disconnect between children and nature. TimberNook offers children a chance to participate in self-directed play and take reasonable risks outdoors to better equip them for success in home and school.

Hanscom anticipates an exciting future for both locations and hopes families will take advantage of the camps’ first sessions.

“At our camp, we use the environment as a ‘third teacher’ to enhance child development and foster creativity,” said Hanscom. “Our camps fill fast, so it is exciting to have multiple locations to offer more opportunities for children to play the TimberNook way.”

TimberNook West River offers five individual camps, each with its own distinctive curriculum, outdoor challenges and creative activities. Interested families are invited to a free launch event on June 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 5030 Sudley Road, West River. Angela Hanscom will be giving a brief presentation at this event.

TimberNook of Central Maryland offers three individual camps this summer, and will host a launch event on July 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Malcolm E. King Conservation Park, 8721 Snouffer School Road in Gaithersburg.

You can learn more about the TimberNook’s camps and philosophy as well as to view registration information here.

Registration is now open for both camps.
