Havre de Grace Visitor Center Will Be Renamed

HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — The Havre de Grace Visitors Center is getting renovated, and it will have a new name when it reopens.

It will be called the “Havre de Grace Welcome Center,” to signal that it is not just for tourists but also for residents.

During the renovations, the tourism staff and volunteers will move to the former site of Amanda’s Florist at 203 North Washington Street. Amanda's Florist closed at the end of August after nearly 34 years in business so the owner could travel.

“We plan to be in that location for only three to four months while the Visitors Center is being renovated,” Director of Economic Development and Tourism Bridgette Johnson told the Havre de Grace City Council at its early July meeting.

“We are also changing the name from the Visitors to the Welcome Center,” Johnson said. “We want this space to be used by not just visitors but also citizens of Havre de Grace and staff and as an event center.”

Johnson said more information would be forthcoming.

At the Havre de Grace Visitor Center, people can get bus schedules, tickets to local events, gifts, event planning contacts, historical information about the city of Havre de Grace and more.
