Movie Theater Closes After 25 Years In Anne Arundel County

LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, MD — A Linthicum Heights movie theater closed recently after a quarter-century in business. The theater, West Nursery Cinemas, was located in the business district near Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

"It was our honor to have served the surrounding communities for the past 25 years," the theater's website said when Patch checked Tuesday. "We thank you for your support and patronage."

The Baltimore Business Journal reported the stand-alone movie theater opened March 13, 1998, and closed this Jan. 16. It was situated in the Airport Square Center at 1591 West Nursery Road.

The 57,300-square-foot theater cost $8.5 million to open, The Baltimore Sun said. There were 2,700 seats in 14 auditoriums.

The Capital reported the theater opened as Hoyts West Nursery Cinema 14. Regal Cinemas acquired Hoyts in 2003, but the Linthicum location kept its original logo and name.

This is the third movie theater to close or change hands recently in Anne Arundel County.

Bow Tie Cinemas Harbour 9, located in the Annapolis Harbour Center, closed in July 2021. Landmark Theatres announced in April 2022 that it would fill that vacancy.

AMC Theatres bought Annapolis Mall 11 from Bow Tie Cinemas last April.
