3-Week-Old’s Murder: Riverdale Father Arrested

BREAKING: Prince George's County police officers​ arrested a father in connection with the death of his newborn baby, police said.

RIVERDALE, MD — Detectives with the Prince George's County Police Department arrested a father in connection with the death of his newborn baby, police announced Tuesday.

Nestor Hernandez, 27, of the 6800 block of Patterson Street in Riverdale, was arrested for the murder of his 3-week-old daughter, Kendra Hernandez.

At approximately 12:50 p.m. on April 8, Prince George’s County Fire/EMS responded to Hernandez's home for the report of an unresponsive baby, police said.

The infant was taken to the hospital where she died the next day. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, police said.

Homicide detectives charged Hernandez with Child Abuse Resulting in Death and related offenses. Hernandez had sole custody of the baby when she sustained the injuries that led to her death, police said.

Hernandez is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
