Richard Montgomery High School Student Leads Maryland Association Of Student Councils

ROCKVILLE, MD — On March 23, Angelina Xu, a junior at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, was elected president of the Maryland Association of Student Councils.

A statewide non-profit organization of public, private, and charter secondary school student councils, MASC serves more than 470,000 middle and high school students across Maryland.

Every year, MASC hosts three major conferences at which students work on improving their skills in public speaking, testifying, environmental advocacy, and more by participating in student-led workshops.

Prior to being elected president, Xu served as MASC's first vice president. In that role, she led students in presentations to the Maryland State Board of Education and coordinated elections for the state student member of the Board of Education finalists. Xu also advocated for Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller on state legislation that addressed student mental health and gun control, among other topics.

In addition to her MASC activities, Xu serves at the legislative affairs director of the Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association and has been treasurer of her school's student government for three years. She is also the co-founder and co-president of Compostology. This non-profit organization strives to prevent 213,579 pounds of greenhouse gases from being released each year through sustainable food waste management practices.
