Rockville College Students Honored For Academic Achievements

Patch highlights the honors received by Rockville students from their college or university.

ROCKVILLE, MD — To shine a light on the academic achievements of college students from the Rockville area, Patch shares information provided by the students' families and Merit News.

Rachel Eller and Grace Sierra of Rockville were named to the president's honors list and the dean's list for spring 2022 at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Dana Gerber of Rockville received a BA in writing, lit and publishing from Emerson College during its 142nd Commencement on May 8, at Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts.

The following students were recently named to Emerson College's dean's list for the spring 2022 semester:

  • Dana Gerber of Rockville is majoring in writing, lit and publishing and is a member of the Class of 2022.
  • Gavin Holland of Rockville is majoring in creative writing BFA and is a member of the Class of 2024.

Students earn a spot on Emerson's dean's list by achieving a grade point average of 3.7 or higher for that semester.

Paige Sonoda of Rockville was named to the dean's list at Bates College for the winter semester ending in April 2022. This is a distinction earned by students whose grade point average is 3.92 or higher. Sonoda, the daughter of David H. Sonoda and Margaret M. Thale, is a 2018 graduate of Georgetown Day School. She is a senior at Bates majoring in sociology and psychology.

Brigid English of Rockville received the 2022 Purple Prize from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Purple Prize is awarded for the best poem submitted to "The Purple," a literary magazine written, edited and published by Holy Cross students to provide a showcase for critical and creative writing.

Caroline L. Wang of Rockville was named to second honors for the spring 2022 spring semester at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Students must have a GPA of 3.8 or above for first honors or a GPA between 3.50 and 3.79 for second honors.

Olivia Steenburgh of Rockville was named to the dean's List for the spring 2022 semester at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. Steenburgh, who is currently enrolled in the game art major, earned a spot on the dean's list by achieving a 3.5 grade point average during the spring semester.

The following students from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts were recently named the dean's list for the spring 2022 semester:

  • Micah Gritz of Rockville, class of 2024
  • Hannah Oshinsky of Rockville, class of 2025
  • Noah Turner of Rockville, class of 2025

Dean's list honors at Tufts University requires a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.

Georgia Becker of Rockville was awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship in the spring semester of 2022 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Provided by the U.S. Department of State, the scholarship pays for a student to study and intern abroad in order to gain proficiency in diverse languages and cultures, skills that are critically important to national security and economic competitiveness.
