Germantown Man Arrested for Auto Theft In Rockville: Police

Police arrested a Germantown man for auto theft Sunday afternoon after responding to a call about a suspicious person on Rockville Pike.

ROCKVILLE, MD — The Rockville City Police Department arrested a man for auto theft Sunday afternoon after responding to a call about a suspicious person on Rockville Pike.

Officers were advised a man was possibly armed with a handgun inside the Ultra Beauty store at 1631 Rockville Pike. When they arrived, officers confronted the man who was attempting to get into a Toyota car in the parking lot.

Officers determined that the registrations plates displayed on the vehicle did not belong to the suspect. After resisting arrest, Phillip Andrew Murray, 31, of Germantown was taken into custody and transported to Shady Grove Hospital for evaluation, according to police.

It was determined that the vehicle Murray was operating was stolen from Germantown and the registration plates displayed on the vehicle were stolen from Prince George’s County, police said. Stolen merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Rockville was also recovered inside the vehicle.

No firearms were recovered at the scene, according to police.

Murray had outstanding arrest warrants through the Montgomery County Police Department for second degree Escape, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and second-degree assault. The Rockville City Police Department charged Murray with auto theft, theft less than $100, resisting arrest, obstructing/hindering and possession of CDS-not marijuana, police said.
