MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — One-time grants between $100 and $2,000 that can be used to pay back old water bills are available to qualifying MOCO residents, Montgomery County said in a news release.

Households that make 60 percent or below of Maryland median income can apply for the assistance, the news release says.

“No one should have to worry about not being able to pay for something as essential as water,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “Through these funds, we can relieve some of the pressure that working families are facing and provide greater peace of mind that basic needs are being met. I encourage any Montgomery County family that qualifies to apply today and get the relief you deserve.”

Applicants who are responsible for a water bill that is over 30 days old, are Montgomery County residents, make under the qualifying amount, and fill the application out completely may be eligible, the news release says.

The goal is to restore water for people who have had it turned off, and to prevent that from happening in the first place.
