John Oliver Diggs Sr., 85, of Rockville, died Sept. 21, 2015. He was born Feb. 16, 1930, in Cumberland, MD,.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Jane, three children Cathy Roberts of Rockville, John Diggs, Jr. of Rockville and Marylynne Diggs and her wife Valerie Miller of Portland, OR; three grandchildren, Drew Landenburger and wife Marguerite, Angie Landenburger, and Dara Landenburger and husband Imer Juarez; two great-grandchildren Link and Kyra Juarez.

Dr. Diggs received his Bachelor of Education degree from Frostburg State Teachers College, and Masters and Doctorate degrees from George Washington University. He worked for Montgomery County Public Schools for 36 years and after retirement was an avid trombonist, playing in 3 local bands.

A memorial service will be held at Ingleside at King Farm, 701 King Farm Blvd. in Rockville, on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Ingleside Foundation, Resident Supporting Fund, 5121 Broad Branch Road, NW, Washington, DC 20008.
