Montgomery County Issues Hyperthermia Alert For Saturday

Expect the heat index to be above 95 degrees, Montgomery County officials warn.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A hyperthermia alert will be in effect from noon until 6 p.m. in Montgomery County.

"Stay hydrated. Make sure to take precautions to protect yourself and pets from heat-related illnesses," the county posted to its Facebook page on Friday.

Residents are also asked to check on elderly friends, relatives and neighbors who may be isolated, to ensure they are not showing signs of heat-related illnesses.

For Sunday, showers will be likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Expect mostly sunny skies with a high near 91 degrees.

A hyperthermia alert is issued for the county when forecasted temperatures, and/or heat index, in at least part of the county, is at least 95 degrees or higher creating a hazardous situation in which heat-stroke and heat exhaustion are likely.
