Montgomery County Schools Update Wednesday Schedule Because Of Snow

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County Public schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 17, in the aftermath of the snowstorm. The district originally planned just to delay the start of classes two hours.

The closure was announced just after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday because of dangerous conditions from difficulties in ice removal.

Offices are open two hours later and eligible 11- and 12-month employees may telework for Wednesday, Jan. 17; all MCPS-sponsored school and community activities are canceled, including athletic practices and events.

Childcare programs in schools may operate two hours later. Check with your provider.

For Employees: 10-month staff do not report. 11-12-month non-emergency staff may choose telework. Emergency staff do report.

Winter weather returned to the region Monday into Tuesday with many cities covered in 4 to 5 inches of snow by Tuesday morning, and cold will soon follow the storm into the state. Low temperatures will drop into the low teens the next two nights, the National Weather Service said.

Most school districts in the Baltimore-DC region canceled classes Tuesday.
