MARYLAND — As a cold front slowly moves through the Baltimore/Washington region on Tuesday, the threat of thunderstorms remains, according to the National Weather Service. Some severe thunderstorms may also move in along and east of the I-95 corridor.

In the afternoon and into the evening, isolated severe thunderstorms are possible across parts of the Baltimore-D.C. region, with damaging winds being the primary threat, according to NWS.

Areas affected include Carroll County, Northern Baltimore, and northwest Montgomery, Howard, and Harford counties.

On Monday, the forecast for hail and strong winds was spotty, with lightning causing a townhome fire in Bel Air and heavy rain delayed the Baltimore Orioles game, while many areas saw little if any rain.

Drier weather with less humidity is expected to pass through the region on Wednesday and Thursday, before the return of a summertime pattern by Friday, according to the NWS.

In the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., expect showers and a heavy thunderstorm, with a 99 percent chance of rain, according to the AccuWeather Forecast. The high will be 81 and the low 65.

Fox 5 reported there is a "marginal risk" for severe weather on Tuesday that could bring damaging wind gusts, heavy downpours and hail to the area in the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Inclement weather may force the temporary closure of some Maryland Department of Transportation Authority bridges. Each facility will implement a closure based on current conditions, so lengthy delays may occur on Tuesday, according to MDTA.

Eastbound delays may occur at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Tuesday, according to MTDA. Heavy rainfall, fog/limited visibility, wind warnings or other restrictions may prevent officials from implementing two-way operations on the bridge. If this occurs, one lane of eastbound traffic will be directed to the westbound span. For the most up-to-date information call 1-877-BAYSPAN (1-877-229-7726).
