ROCKVILLE, MD — More than 170 Montgomery College students from 12 classes over two semesters will have their creative work projected onto the Humanities Building of the school's Rockville campus on Thursday night.

Led by artist Natan Diacon-Furtado, the display will bring together the students' 2D artwork in a "quilt" of patterns, which will interact with the brick-and-mortar of the building's architecture, according to a release. This free public event is scheduled for 8-9:30 p.m., with a rain date planned for April 20.

“Natan has worked virtually with us for almost two years. It is very exciting for the students that he is coming to the event Thursday in person,” said Professor of Art Amanda Gordon Miller, the coordinator of the Collaborative Artist in Residence (AiR) Program for the Rockville and Germantown Campus Art Departments, in a release. “This project continues to grow. Based on the success of his Fall 2021 virtual residency, Natan was invited to introduce a new group of 2D Design students to Our Patterns, Montgomery College this spring.”

Later this month, patterns from Thursday's light show will be used to create sidewalk decals that will be installed around campus. The installation is planned to coincide with the Rockville campus' Mental Health Day event on April 25.
